à propos de / about THE TIMESHARE PROJECT
Rond-Point Projects, plateforme curatoriale basée à Marseille, présente le project Anywhere out of the Book. Impliquant un groupe d’artistes internationaux, le projet sera nourri par la rencontre avec la ville d’Aarhus et ses habitants pendant une session de travail collectif incluant des présentations et interventions ouvertes au public pour aboutir à la réalisation d’une publication. Interrogeant les limites de l’œuvre d’art et les conditions matérielles de la production artistique, le projet vise à réinvestir le potentiel subversif de l’art, de la fiction et du langage poétique dans le monde contemporain.

Rond-Point Projects, a non-profit space in Marseille, presents the project Anywhere out of the Book. Involving an international group of artists, the project will both engage with the city of Aarhus through interventions and present works, talks and exchanges, eventually culminating in a composite publication. Probing the boundaries of the artwork, the project reflects on the material conditions of artistic production and pivots on the subversive potential of art fiction and poetic language in the contemporary world.

Anywhere Out Of The Book explore le potentiel d’interférence et de subversion de l’art, de la fiction et de la poésie, à travers la réalisation d’une publication composite, à la fois collection d’éditions d’artistes et ouvrage collectif, imprimée à Marseille au moyen d’un duplicopieur Riso. Réunissant un groupe d’artistes et d’écrivains internationaux, le projet s’articule autour d’un temps fort de travail collectif à Aarhus (Danemark), suivi d’un second temps à Marseille (France). Les sessions de travail seront ponctuées par des présentations et des événements proposés par les artistes, invitant les habitants de chaque ville à prendre part à ce processus en y apportant, au-delà du livre, l’écho de leurs propres préoccupations et expériences.
Anywhere Out Of The Book adopte les méthodes de l’auto-édition et de la fabrication artisanale en mettant à profit la flexibilité et l’autonomie qu’elles offrent en termes de création, mais aussi d’alternative à la standardisation et au contrôle des moyens de production et de diffusion. Ce parti pris suggère une certaine manière d’envisager le livre, tout à la fois instrument de savoir, de pouvoir, d’invention et de résistance pour penser ses formes et son statut. Il participe en ce sens à définir un cadre matériel et conceptuel commun permettant de réunir la diversité des perspectives et des propositions des artistes et auteurs invités.
Le titre du projet « Anywhere Out Of The Book » fait référence au livre Seuils (1987) de Gérard Genette, dans lequel cette formule sert à désigner les discours qui configurent l’existence sociale de l’œuvre. Le projet met l’accent sur la définition du paratexte (autrement dit l’appareil éditorial d’un livre constitué de tous éléments autres que le texte en tant que tel) comme seuil, pour interroger cette « zone indécise » entre le dedans et le dehors de l’œuvre, entre le domaine de l’art et de la fiction et celui de l’expérience vécue, en invitant les artistes et les auteurs à partager différents moments collectif, de travail, de vie et de rencontre avec le public, et à investir l’espace de l’imprimé comme une tribune pour formuler et partager leurs réflexions, ressentis, idées et revendications vis-à-vis de l’état du monde.

Anywhere Out Of The Book explores the subversive and inquisitorial potential of art, fiction and poetry through a composite publication that is both a collection of individual imprints and a collective work, printed ‘in-house’ on a Risograph machine. It brings together an international group of artists and writers for a series of work sessions in Aarhus and Marseille. The sessions will include moments of public presentation and events in which a wider audience is invited to participate in creating the world beyond the book.
Anywhere Out Of The Book is invested in methods of self-publishing as they offer creative flexibility and autonomy and the ability to have greater control to the means of production and distribution. It also creates a discussion on certain ways of thinking about the form of a book, about its status, and its role in a wider world. As such, although the invited artists and writers will each be pursuing a variety of specific enquiries, they will be departing from and sharing in the material, spatial, and contextual framework of the project.
The title ‘Anywhere Out Of The Book’ references Seuils (1987) by Gérard Genette who used this phrase to name the discourses that form the social existence of a book or artwork. The project draws on the definition of the paratext (referring to all the additional elements of a book beyond its main text) as a threshold to investigate this « indecisive zone » between the inside and the outside of the work, between lived experience and the realm of art and fiction. Through various sessions of group work, communal living, and research trips, the artists and writers will be invited to use the space of print as a forum to formulate and share their thoughts, feelings, demands and ideas regarding the current state of the world.

Le projet se poursuivra par un deuxième temps de travail dans l’espace de Rond-Point Projects à Marseille, du 25 mai au 10 juin 2017, qui inclura des moments de rencontre avec les artistes et d’ouverture au public. Une première soirée d’ouverture aura lieu à l’occasion du Printemps de l’Art Contemporain, le jeudi 25 mai à partir de 19h.

The project will develop during a second work session in Marseille, between 25th May and 10th June, also including events and public openings. The first opening night will take place on the occasion of the Contemporary Art Spring festival (Printemps de l’Art Contemporain) Thursday 25th May starting at 7 pm.
